

BIOGRAPHY
Violet Smith holds a B.A in Lighting Design from Ball State University and will complete her M.F.A in Lighting Design from Cal Arts in 2023.
At Ball State, she worked for a year as an Assistant Production Stage Manager for the department, worked in the lighting shop as a staff electrician overseeing and participating in the maintenance, hang, and focus of the 20+ productions each year, and also worked as a staff electrician in Emens Auditorium assisting on the load in, running, and load out of touring productions.
She worked at the Great River Shakespeare Festival from the summers of 2015-2018 as a non equity mainstage Stage Manager. She assisted in teaching the annual Shakespeare for Young Designers course and was the lighting designer for the 2018 production of Venus in Fur.
She spent the fall of 2017 at Chicago Scenic Studios and assisting Chicago lighting designer Mike Durst.
She spent the spring of 2018 as a freelance corporate electrician in Columbus, Ohio and has worked for the past year as a corporate lighting designer and technician at Bartha in Columbus Ohio.
Violet is interested in mixed media art and her next cup of coffee.
